Timberland still committed to renewable energy target

14/09/2018
In its regular quarterly corporate social responsibility (CSR) update, outdoor brand Timberland has reported a slight decline in its performance.

The company splits its efforts into three categories: product, outdoor and community.

In the product category, its latest report, covering the second quarter of 2018, revealed that 80% of the cotton used in Timberland apparel was either organic, of US origin or certified by the Better Cotton Initiative. In addition, 96% of its overall leather volume was sourced from tanneries that have a Silver of Gold rating from the Leather Working Group. Of its 427 factory partners, 99% met or exceeded its compliance expectations.

In the outdoor category, Timberland reported that 29% of the energy used at facilities it owns or operates was from renewable sources. This was down slightly compared to 2016. It has committed to sourcing 50% of its energy from renewable sources.

Timberland describes service to the community as “part of our DNA”. In the second quarter, Timberland employees served 16,809 hours.
