Odlo and HeiQ launch ‘triple-action’ odour control technology

Representatives of both companies have spent “thousands of hours in the laboratory” over the past three years, they said at the time of the launch, pointing to Pure SPQR as the “breakthrough” to have come out of this work.
It will be engineered into Odlo’s spring-summer 2020 next-to-skin products.
Derived from renewable and recycled sources, it delivers a triple-action resistance to odour control. Silver constitutes the first part of this, but the companies have pointed out that SPQR contains 10% of the silver-ion content that general silver-based odour control treatments tend to have.
The second action is carried out by a bio-based amino sugar polymer, which anchors the silver ions to “amplify their performance and durability”, the companies have said.
And third, at a microscopic level, the amino sugar polymer creates a durable barrier film around the fibre, preventing odour compounds from sticking to the textile.
This means, the partners have said, that garments can be washed easily at low temperatures, which extends the usable life of the garment and makes it more sustainable.
“We have tested odour control treatments from multiple suppliers,” said Odlo chief executive, Knut Are Høgberg, at the time of the launch. “The result from this Odlo-HeiQ co-innovation is better by far than anything else we have found in the market.”
