Silver reduction takes no shine off HeiQ odour-control ideas

Textile technology provider HeiQ has added to its Fresh range of odour-control solutions and is now offering options that use less silver. It has said this move is to cater for brands that want to reduce or even remove the silver content from the technology that keeps their garments odour-free.

Fresh FFL, for example, is a bio-based amino sugar polymer that is silver-free and not an antimicrobial. It works by removing fat and protein content from sweat, one of the five components (with moisture, warmth, the textile surface and, of course, bacteria) that must be in place for odour to form. HeiQ’s principle here is that if you remove one of the five elements, there will be no odour.

Pure SPQR is a 90% bio-based option for odour control that works with what HeiQ calls “a minimal amount of recycled silver”. In this case, the product removes two of the five precursors needed to cause sweat odour, eliminating the bacteria as well as fat and protein from sweat.

Commenting on these developments, the company’s chief sales officer, Christian von Uthmann, said: “These options are more sustainable and work just as well to control odour as the traditional silver salt options currently on the market.”

All HeiQ Fresh products are bluesign approved or in the approval process.
