Student designers rewarded with factory tour and session with Karim Guest
Yarn manufacturer Südwolle Group recently welcomed two young designers from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp for a knitting and design workshop in cooperation with the Woolmark Company, Peterseim Strickwaren and New York fashion designer Karim Guest.
This followed the academy’s graduation show in June, at which the Woolmark Company and Südwolle Group jointly sponsored 10 masters and bachelor students. Using a selection of the company’s merino wool yarns, Linus Leonardsson and Sam Slegers were awarded most creative and best application of merino.
As a result, the two student designers were hosted in Germany and spent a day in Südwolle Group’s headquarters learning about spinning technologies, Merino insights and possible applications. Mr Leonardsson and Mr Slegers then visited knitting manufacturer Peterseim Strickwaren in Thuringia, Germany, to work on three new designs, accompanied by Mr Guest.
