Oven omission to reduce PrimaLoft CO2 emissions by 48%

It explained on making the announcement that the traditional process for putting insulation materials into outdoor garments involves five main steps: selection of fibres, forming the fibres into a framework for the insulation, applying heat to bond these fibres together, shipping the insulation material to garment manufacturers, incorporating the insulation material into a finished garment.
For PURE, PrimaLoft has pointed out that the fibres it uses are 100% post-consumer recycled. The biggest breakthrough, however, is that the company’s new technique eliminates stage three altogether. “Our proprietary technology has been engineered specifically to bond and cure through exposure to air, instead of the heat from an oven,” PrimaLoft said. “The result is a sweeping reduction in carbon emissions.”
Chief executive, Mike Joyce, said at the time of the announcement that it had taken four years for PrimaLoft to develop and perfect the new process. The company has calculated that using PURE to create its entire yearly production of PrimaLoft Gold insulation will result in a carbon-emissions saving of 48%.
Patagonia will be the first brand to use PURE material in its garments, starting from autumn 2020.
