Nike to stop selling products on Amazon

15/11/2019
Nike will stop selling merchandise directly to Amazon, in what multiple news outlets have reported is an effort by the company to focus on selling directly to consumers.

This brings an abrupt end to an agreement between Nike and Amazon that began in 2017. According to CNBC, the pilot test involved Nike agreeing to sell a limited selection of footwear, apparel and accessories and Amazon agreeing to stricter monitoring of counterfeits and other restrictions.

In a statement to CNBC, Nike said the decision to complete the pilot with Amazon Retail was part of a focus to elevate consumers’ experiences with more direct and personal relationships.

CNBC also pointed out that Nike’s next CEO John Donahoe was formerly the CEO of eBay and is currently a chairman of the board at PayPal, which suggests the company is putting a renewed focus on ecommerce.
