EOCA challenges ISPO 2020 exhibitors to sign plastic-free pledge

Trade shows are known to feature disposable plastics in abundance, offered by well-meaning exhibitors wishing to provide visitors with water bottles, coffee stirrers and more. The European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) is hoping ISPO 2020 will be different, as they ask exhibitors to pledge to keep stands free of single-use plastics.

More specifically, the pledge asks exhibitors to provide a source of drinking water on stands that visitors and staff can use to refill reusable containers, to encourage staff to bring their own single-use mugs or bottles, and to provide reusables for those who don’t. Exhibitors are also asked to not use or provide any single-use plastics, such as bottled drinks, cups, cutlery or single-portion sugars and creamers.

EOCA launched its Plastic Pledge earlier this year, and 44 companies signed up to it before OutDoor by ISPO in Munich. Catherine Savidge, joint general manager of EOCA, said her organisation was thrilled with the response, and that exhibitors reduced waste from their stands by 75%.

“We now call on more exhibitors to sign and implement the pledge at ISPO 2020,” said Ms Savidge. “This is open to all exhibitors to the show – EOCA members and non-members. The more companies that sign the pledge, the more of a difference we can make reducing waste, reducing plastic use and therefore reducing our impact on the climate.”
