EOCA’s first online conservation fundraiser raises €16,400
Through its first ever online fundraiser for conservation, the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) raised more than €16,400 (~$19,300) of money to go toward conservation projects.
Typically, EOCA hosts a Conservation Fundraiser at the OutDoor by ISPO tradeshow, during which gear donated from members is sold to show visitors. Past fundraisers have raised more than €30,000 over the four days. When the 2020 show was cancelled, EOCA launched an online version.
Brands like Adventure.ie, La Sportiva, Pajak, Stanley and Vaude donated a percentage of their online sales to EOCA on various dates over the fundraising period, Gregory made a donation from a sample sale.
Nonprofit Outdoor Gear for Good (OGFG) contributed 100% of its sales over the month to the fundraiser. OGFG launched in the spring and sells excess stock from major outdoor brands to raise money for the outdoors. Richard Leedham, founder of OGFG, said the fundraiser helped to fast track the growth of the new model.
All funds raised will be spent on conservation projects. EOCA said the money raised is still being counted and collected but the current total stands at more than €16,400.
Joint general manager Catherine Savidge said, “The generosity of EOCA members, particularly at a time when businesses across Europe were being hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, was overwhelming. To be able to raise this amount of money during our first ever Online Fundraiser, to pass on to projects which are making a real difference to our planet and our climate, demonstrates yet again, the positive things that can be delivered when the industry works together.”
