Rudolf announces antibacterial and antiviral textile treatment
Textile chemicals manufacturer Rudolf has announced a durable antibacterial and antiviral treatment for textiles.
Describing the development as “the company’s flagship antimicrobial product for textile applications”, Rudolf said new features in RUCO-BAC AGP trigger their antibacterial and antiviral effects based on three inhibiting mechanisms.
These mechanisms include blocking oxygen-transporting enzymes to impair growth, “crushing” disulfide bonds and the structure of sulphur-containing proteins; and possibly interfering with bacteria and virus surface protein in a membrane.
Gunther Duschek, managing director at Rudolf, said 2020 has been a “highly emotional” year that’s seen the “widespread introduction of antimicrobials on textile” amid many “vague, misleading or unsubstantiated marketing claims”.
He said Rudolf is acting responsibly and moving forward cautiously. “[We] stand for technologies and practices that are effective, truthful and limit the exposure of apparel manufacturers, retailers and buyers to any risk.”
