Rockport walks with purpose into its fiftieth year
US-based footwear company Rockport (which celebrates 50 years in business this year) recently commissioned a survey to investigate the walking habits of over one thousand American adults over the past twelve months, during the covid-19 pandemic.
Among other insights, the survey found that 53% of US adults are now walking between one mile (around 1.6 kilometres) and five miles (roughly eight kilometres) more each day, compared to previous years.
What is more, the investigation uncovered that 57% of Americans found their walking practice to be stress relieving. 67% either strongly agree or agree with the idea that walking helps to clear their mind and create a better sense of control over their lives, according to the findings.
Notably, 33% use their walk to take a break from work and 28% use their walking time to reconnect with loved ones. 50% of respondents are very likely or somewhat likely to leave their mobile device at home when walking.
Rockport’s chief marketing officer, Lisa Laich, commented: “For 50 years, Rockport has celebrated walking and comfort, helping people power their lives from morning to night. And while routines have changed this past year, 2020 has shown us the clear value and importance of walking.
“This survey shows that Americans of all ages and across geographic locations are more interested than ever in getting in their daily steps and we’re excited to help people navigate each step of their walking journey.”
The brand is encouraging people to share their own walking journeys by using the #LetsWalkRockport hashtag on social media.
