Andy Murray to return to Wimbledon in merino wool kit
Scottish professional tennis player Sir Andy Murray is set to return to Wimbledon at the end of the month wearing a performance merino wool kit co-developed by The Woolmark Company and his own tennis clothing brand, AMC.
In a joint press release, the two companies described the wool blend used as the first of its kind, specially designed using “cutting-edge” technology to enhance the two-time Wimbledon winner’s performance. The athlete will wear the garments for all matches, as well as during his training for the tournament.
Sir Murray commented: “I’ve been testing the kit for a few months now and am really happy with how it feels and performs. I work closely with the designers on every piece and give regular feedback.
“For me, the technical performance is vital. It’s also very important that the kit is sustainable, and I like the fact that it looks and feels a bit different.”
Managing director of The Woolmark Company, Stuart McCullough, added: “The launch of this innovative kit elevates merino wool to an entirely new level of performance on a global stage and demonstrates that merino wool garments are both stylish and capable of use in an elite sporting environment.”
The release emphasised the natural, renewable and biodegradable properties of merino wool, describing it as “the world’s original performance fibre” due to its breathability, thermoregulation and softness, plus natural elasticity and odour-resistant qualities.
A five-piece retail collection is now available globally.
