Adidas updates Barricade for ‘modern tennis’
Adidas has launched an updated version of tennis shoe Barricade after feedback from athletes helped it adapt control, durability and comfort.

The design elements are driven by Dominic Thiem and Maria Sakkari (pictured) providing ongoing feedback during the creation process.

Ms Sakkari said: “It is no secret modern tennis is faster than ever before. Footwork is fundamental – you need stability, comfort and control when moving about the court.”

The Barricade is equipped with Adituff abrasion resistant material and uses a newly developed Adiwear rubber compound on the outsole.

A 3D TPU shank and asymmetric lacing systems help lock the foot into the shoe. The tongue is engineered with a foam package and perforations, the heel has Geofit sense pods, and there is a Bounce midsole for extra support.

All pieces in the collection feature Primeblue, a high-performance recycled material made in part with Parley Ocean Plastic, using a minimum of 40% recycled content.
