Sportswear brand adidas has unveiled a limited edition version of its Tour360 XT golf shoe made with yarns spun from upcycled plastic waste that has been intercepted from beaches and coastal communities.

It is the latest stage of the brand’s partnership with ocean conservation group Parley for the Oceans. This has resulted in it using upcycled plastic waste in products for a number of sports including football, tennis, rugby and baseball. This is its first golf shoe made in this way.

The special version of the Tour360 XT comes in an ocean blue and aqua green colourway. It went on sale on June 10. It will also be sold on-site at the US Open golf tournament at Pebble Beach (June 13-16) and at selected US retailers from June 12.

In terms of its performance characteristics, the shoe is built on an eight-spike outsole that features adidas’s X-Traxion technology. There is also a full-length BOOST midsole and additional midfoot support.

Of the new product, Masun Denison, global footwear director of adidas Golf, said: “This is the first golf shoe we’ve ever made that incorporates upcycled materials and this is just the beginning. In a sport that’s played outdoors and where sustainability is often under the microscope, we feel this is a massive step forward for the game.”
