Adidas continues fight against ocean plastic
Sportswear manufacturer adidas has marked the return of its ‘Run For The Oceans’ initiative with the release of a new colourway for its UltraBoost Parley shoe, made from recycled ocean plastic.

The colour, which it calls Deep Ocean Blue, is inspired by the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the world’s oceans. Scientists recently found plastic waste there, further highlighting this serious and growing environmental issue.

The German group manufactures products made from recovered ocean plastic as part of its relationship with ocean conservation group Parley for the Oceans.

Each new UltraBoost Parley shoe is said to save around 11 plastic bottles from entering the ocean. Each one features a Primeknit upper, made from 85% recycled ocean plastic.

The new silhouette is the official shoe of Run For the Oceans 2018, taking place from June 8-July 8 across the world.

For 2018, adidas has pledged to donate $1 for the first one million kilometres tracked using its Runtastic smartphone application during the event. This will go towards the Parley Ocean School initiative, which aims to educate the next generation on how to protect the oceans.
