Adidas unites runners for World Oceans Day
06/06/2017
Between June 5 and 11, runners who sign up to the scheme will listen to a podcast to learn about the ocean’s ecosystem and the Parley strategy and contribute their miles to a total.
Adidas x Parley will also oversee the first Run for the Oceans, taking over New York City at night. Around 500 runners will take part in a 5km run, illuminating the city streets with blue lights.
Adidas board member Eric Liedtke said: "Adidas teamed up with Parley to help spread awareness and transform ocean plastic pollution into high performance sportswear, spinning the problem into a solution. The threat, into a thread.
“We have already taken the first steps to reduce and ultimately eliminate virgin and single use plastic from our products. In doing so, we have shown that it is possible, and that people care – but now we must accelerate and scale. Our efforts won’t stop with product - we want to create a global movement to help save the oceans from the threat of plastic waste.”
Adidas has also launched a white edition of its UltraBOOST, UltraBOOST X and UltraBOOST Uncaged (pictured) for the occasion.
Reusing an average of 11 plastic bottles per pair in the upper, the designs also feature laces, heel webbing, heel counter, heel lining and sock liner covers made from recycled PET material.
