Adidas redesigns its Ultraboost shoe for 2019
Sportswear brand adidas has said it worked with runners from across the world to “completely rebuild” its Ultraboost performance running shoe. It unveiled the new version for 2019 earlier this month.

According to adidas, the runners it consulted said running as an activity is changing, with more city running and fun runs. They told the brand that it is now a much more social sport.

They also made it clear that they wanted a simpler product, but without any compromise on the performance it offers. To reflect this, adidas has explained that it deconstructed the existing Ultraboost design, which had 17 components, and instead focused on four key components. They are:

Optimised use of adidas’ Boost midsole, with 20% more in the midsole than previous Ultraboost shoes;
Torsion Spring, a lightweight construction that it is said to offer enhanced support on landing and a better transition;
Primeknit 360, which adidas has said offers comfort and lightweight performance;
An updated 3D Heel Frame, which is said to cradle the heel to increase adaptability and support.

Announcing the release of the Ultraboost 19, Sam Handy, vice president of design for adidas Running, said the brand had “tore up the rule book” and “challenged the status quo” on how running shoes are created. He added that the feedback from runners around the world had been crucial to the process.

The product had a limited-release on December 15 in the ‘Laser Red’ colorway. Further limited-edition releases will take place before the global launch on February 21, 2019.
