07/07/2021
It is in keeping with YKK’s Sustainability Vision 2050 to reduce water and chemical usage through new technologies.
Terry Tsukumo, vice-president of YKK Global Marketing Group, said: “While YKK is known for strong internal research and development, we are always looking for innovative new technologies to complement our own.
“GTT’s Empel technology offers extremely durable water protection without the use of harmful chemicals.”
GTT’s Martin Flora said YKK’s comes at a “critical time when major clothing brands and textile mills have to step forward to make a change for the future of the planet”.
YKK launched its first recycled material zip in 1994 and has developed portfolio of “eco-friendly” products such as GreenRise, made with plant-based polyester, and Natulon Ocean Sourced zip, made from ocean-bound plastic waste.
GTT launched the Empel platform in 2018 with the goal of eliminating toxic PFCs.
