Li-Ning unveils first ever skateboarding collection
American professional skateboarder Erik Ellington has partnered with Beijing-headquartered sportswear brand Li-Ning to create the Chinese brand’s first ever line of skateboarding shoes.
According to reports, an accompanying apparel collection will also be released later in the year.
When discussing the skate footwear with Hypebeast, Mr Ellington commented: “I had been looking for a new story to tell through performance design. When Li-Ning approached me about partnering to launch their first skate collection, it felt like a good fit. They effortlessly intertwine style and function in a way that stands out from other athletic brands.
“With this design, we explored new material combinations that have never made their way onto a skate shoe before, like the ripstop toe cage and sealed double tongue flap.”
The Li-Ning x Ellington collection reportedly drew inspiration from the New York City skate scene, as well as the spirit of the 1990s and vintage basketball and running shoes.
In a personal statement released via social media, Mr Ellington said that he was “proud” and “couldn’t be more excited” to launch the line alongside Li-Ning.
