China’s biggest viscose maker takes renewable energy step

China-based viscose producer Sateri has installed a $780,000 solar photovoltaic system on the roof of one of its mills, the start of a focus on renewable energy to reduce its carbon footprint.

Allen Zhang, president of Sateri, said: “This pilot solar project is a small step towards realising both company and China’s decarbonisation goals. We are encouraged by the success of this first experience with solar energy and plan to invest in more renewable energy use across our mill operations.”

Last November, Sateri unveiled its Vision 2030 which includes targets to achieve 30% carbon emission reduction by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050. It said Sateri is committed to China’s “dual-carbon” goal to achieve carbon emissions peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. Sateri mills will participate in a national carbon trading scheme.

Shanghai-headquartered Sateri operates six viscose fibre factories, following its purchase of Funing Aoyang Technology this year.
