All Sateri viscose mills in China EU BAT compliant

27/08/2021

Shanghai-headquartered Sateri, the world’s largest producer of viscose fibre, has announced that all the viscose mills in China it currently owns now fully comply with emission limits specified by the European Union (EU) in its Best Available Techniques (BAT) reference document (BREF) on polymers.

The news follows recent independent verification of the Sateri Jiangsu (an older mill purchased only two years ago) and Sateri China (built in 2019) mills, the company said. Its Fujian, Jiujiang and Jiangxi mills achieved EU BAT compliance last year.

Parameters assessed included air emission, utility efficiency and wastewater discharge.

Sateri’s president, Allen Zhang, said: “We had aimed to have both mills meet EU BAT’s recommended emission levels by 2023. To achieve this two years ahead of schedule underscores our continuous efforts in process improvement and control of pollutant emissions, as well as resource utilisation efficiency.

“We will continue to pursue manufacturing excellence and invest in best-in-class technologies for all our mills - existing, acquired and newly constructed ones - as part of our Vision 2030 commitment towards closed-loop and cleaner production.”

Commenting on the news, chairman of China Chemical Fiber Industry Association, Chen Xinwei, added that all other players in the industry should be encouraged to follow in Sateri’s footsteps.
