UK’s OIA says government lobbying pays off

24/08/2021
The Outdoor Industries Association (OIA) has announced the UK government will enable CE marked goods to continue to be sold in the UK until 1 January 2023, which it describes as “a great win for OIA”.

The association has been supporting the industry to make the transition to the new UKCA regime and lobbying politicians and government for an extension to the previous January 2022 date for full transition.

However, it added this is the final deadline and it has been clearly told there will be no further extension.

Andrew Denton, OIA CEO, says: “The OIA has been working hard during the pandemic to build momentum and recognition for the importance of the outdoor recreation sector in the recovery process.

“The Brexit deadline gave us some extra challenges, and the OIA is really pleased to have been able to support the industry in this vital issue. This extension may be a testament to the noticeable shift in support from government to engage, listen and support outdoor recreation in the recovery.”
