Funding for initiative to end Swedish wool waste

A government-funded innovation agency in Sweden, Vinnova, is helping to fund a project called the Swedish Wool Initiative.

Non-profit Axfoundation set up the Swedish Wool Initiative in 2020 following reports that, in 2019, Swedish companies had imported 1,650 tonnes of wool. At the same time, only 37% of all the wool produced by Swedish farmers was used.

Axfoundation said this was a huge waste of a resource that could provide Swedish manufacturers of clothing and other products with local, biobased and recyclable material, helping them transition to a sustainable and circular industry.

Outdoor brand Fjällräven is one of a group of companies involved in discussions to find the best way to use the Vinnova funding to put the project into effect.
