Alpaca summit held in Peru
16/11/2021
Jointly organised by Peru’s Commission for Export and Tourism (Promperu) and the International Alpaca Association, the occasion marked the first time that trade shows Alpaca Fiesta and Peru Moda Deco had ever run concurrently.
Beginning October 25 and ending November 12, the jointly run online events saw the participation of more than 300 Peru-based enterprises dealing in footwear and apparel, plus cotton and alpaca fibres. Buyers from Speedo and Christian Dior were reportedly among those in attendance.
Local brands including Sophie Ottaner and Norgäte presented their collections digitally.
Promperu data from August of this year suggested a year-on-year increase in alpaca exports of 90.2%, with shipments in large part headed to destinations such as China, Italy and the United States. The value of said exports was around $112 million.
