100% rPET thread supports ‘sustainable’ on-demand dyeing

The thread, made from 100% post-consumer recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) plastic bottles, has been awarded Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex certification. It is to be sold in sets of 6 x 10-kilometre thread reels.
Further, all accompanying thread cones are to be made with recycled plastics, plus shipped in recycled cartons. The two companies said that this would help reduce the thread’s environmental impact even more.
Chief executive at Coloreel, Torbjörn Bäck, commented on the development: “The shift to recycled polyester thread is a great step in Coloreel’s mission to increase sustainability.
“This provides our customers with a more sustainable embroidery alternative and solves the problem with lack of availability of recycled polyester thread in a large variety of colours.”
