Spinnova helps Icepeak outfit Finnish Olympians
Outdoor apparel brand Icepeak has collaborated with fellow Finnish company and textile material enterprise Spinnova on an over-the-shoulder sports bag for the Finnish Olympic team, for whom Icepeak has provided the official uniform for the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing next year.

Fashioned by Icepeak, both the bag and its strap are made from Spinnova materials, which the company said demonstrated the versatility of the fibre, which can be made from sustainably sourced wood or waste, without microplastics or harmful chemicals.

Co-founder and chief executive of Spinnova, Janne Poranen, commented: “The Games bring different nations together to compete under mutual terms towards a shared goal.

“In the spirit of this collaboration, we’ve joined forced with Icepeak from Luhta Sportswear Company to create a fully circular sports bag that demonstrates the versatility of our sustainable material.”

Sustainability director for Icepeak parent Luhta, Tia Rantanen, added: “We’ve been a partner of the Finnish Olympic Committee and official outfitter of the Finnish Olympic team since 2016.

“We have renewed our firm commitment to sustainability this year and it has been exciting to try out new materials that make the collection more sustainable. When these new materials are carried by Finland’s Olympic athletes, we have an opportunity to amplify this message and bring sustainability to the podium.”

Ms Rantanen also said that Luhta is looking forward to using more Spinnova materials group-wide in the future.

The first commercial-scale factory for Spinnova fibre, the result of a tie-up with cellulose producer Suzano, is expected to be completed by the close of 2022.
