Team Korea's Winter Games gear revealed

The Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games are currently on track to run during February and March, respectively.

In a recent development, the South Korean arm of outdoor brand The North Face, exclusively distributed by Youngone Corporation in the country, has revealed the official uniform for Team Korea’s Winter Olympics athletes.

Consisting of a total of 19 articles, the uniforms stretch from “everyday” wear to gear specific to the opening and closing ceremonies, plus training and the competition events themselves.

Not only clothing, but footwear, accessories and other items of “squad equipment” have also been provided.

Debuted ahead of last year’s Summer Olympics, certain articles have again been made from K-Eco-Tech material, which uses both recycled nylon and recycled polyester. According to local media, roughly two hundred 500-millilitre waste plastic bottles were used in the making of each athlete’s uniform.

Other materials such as recycled leather, recycled synthetic filler (labelled “Eco V-Motion”) and virgin merino wool were also all incorporated.

Visual motifs splashed across some of the garments include artistic interpretations of the Taebaek mountain range, which winds its way down from North Korea into South Korea and effectively forms the ‘spine’ of the Korean Peninsula.

As sportstextiles reported last spring, Youngone is officially partnered with the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee and Team Korea until 2024.
