Kolon opens purpose-driven Jeju concept store
A new eco-minded concept store by South Korean activewear brand Kolon Sport has recently opened its doors amid the trendy waterfront area of Tapdong on the volcanic island of Jeju in the Korea Strait.
The pared back boutique, complete with an interior assembled from local driftwood and other upcycled materials, is set to offer a curation of Kolon’s most “sustainable” ranges as part of its “re;birth” series, in addition to exclusive designs. It will also serve as a communication tool - ie, a consumer ‘destination’ - for the brand’s wider social and environmental initiatives.
Rental of raincoats, camping equipment and mountaineering gear appropriate to the local climate and surroundings is to be facilitated in-store, as are interactive merchandise repair and refurbishment sessions.
Chief sustainability officer at the company, Han Kyeong-ae, commented that she considered “coexistence” with the natural environment as foundational to the work of outdoor sportswear brands. Ms Han stated that the store would serve as the concrete base for Kolon’s eco-conscious activities going forward.
