South Korea’s Kolon to make Antarctica-fit kit

According to local media reports, South Korean sportswear brand Kolon Sport recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Polar Research Institute (KPRI).

The agreement means that Kolon will now develop kit for KRPI’s K-route expedition, which is currently exploring inland Antarctica.

KPRI intends to complete a 1,700-kilometre route through the territory on behalf of the north-east Asian nation, to help South Korean scientists achieve better research results.

Emphasis will be placed on producing climate-appropriate apparel, to ensure the research team can complete their mission safely. KPRI and Kolon will collaborate on the field testing of clothing and supplies fit for exploring the polar regions with this aim in mind.

Brand manager at Kolon Sport, Park Seong-cheol, commented that the company is committed to outfitting KPRI with the best clothing and supplies until the K-route expedition is completed.
