Hyosung helps Big Agnes ascend new heights
Colorado-headquartered sleeping bag, tent, insulated apparel and camping furniture brand Big Agnes has, with the help of South Korean fibre producer Hyosung, expanded into technical backpacks for its spring-summer 2022 collection.

The outdoor equipment company, which celebrates 20 years in business this year, recently unveiled a line of six backpacks for men and women with a capacity range of between 20 and 63 litres.

Crucially, the packs have been made with the fibre manufacturer’s 100% recycled (and Global Recycled Standard certified) Mipan regen robic nylon, described as high-tenacity with a solution-dyed ripstop grid and made from reclaimed waste.

Co-founder and president of Big Agnes, Bill Gambler, commented: “Our packs have been years in the making and we’re thrilled to bring them to market with 100% recycled fabrics.”

Adding to this, global marketing director for Hyosung’s textiles division, Mike Simko, stated: “We are honoured to partner with Big Agnes, a brand synonymous with award-winning design and innovation, to find the right sustainable solution for its new backpack line.”

Accompanying the launch is a Big Agnes-branded, seven-litre packable “trash can” for both the trail and back at camp, which the firm said will be included with all 45- to 63-litre backpacks (but will also be sold separately). This accessory will be made from the same recycled material at the backpacks.

The outdoor gear company added that it had partnered the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics to donate a portion of sales from each backpack and “trash can” sold.
