Pace of digitisation to increase in South Korea
28/09/2021
As reported previously by WSA, the nation’s Digital New Deal is one of two components (the other being the Green New Deal) to the Korean New Deal strategy, originally intended as a government-led post-covid-19 stimulus plan.
Prior to Textile Day, chairman of the Korea Federation of Textile Industries (KOFOTI), Lee Sang-woon, will deliver an online seminar via YouTube on October 30, centring on the subject of digitally transforming the local textile and fashion industry. Mr Lee hosted a similar event, with a focus on fibre recycling, last year.
According to reports, Mr Lee is expected to discuss a new strategy for the future of the industry, which places micro factories capable of producing “hi-tech” textile and fashion articles, such as smart garments, at its heart.
These factories will produce small volumes and prototypes with short lead times using advanced manufacturing technology, Korean media said.
New developments from the Korea Textile Machinery Convergence Research Institute (reportedly linked to its use of robots across the sector) and Hyosung ITX (regarding the need for cloud-enabled networks and technological standardisation across the industry) are also expected.
