Fibre recycling major thread of Korean ‘green’ new deal
Local media have reported that the Korea Federation of Textile Industries (KOFOTI) and Korea Chemical Fibers Association (KCFA) jointly held a pan-textile industry online seminar via YouTube in late November, on the subject of fashion industry recycling.
270 users livestreamed the event out of 500 applicants.
The event followed South Korea’s 34th Textile Day celebrations on November 11, during which strategies for the textile and fashion industry’s official “new deal” were discussed, including the creation of 36,000 new jobs. Chairman of KOFOTI, Lee Sang-woon (pictured speaking at the event on November 11), announced several implementation strategies for a greener, increasingly digitised and more collaborative industry.
KOFOTI and KCFA focused on the “green” thread of the industrial new deal in their late-November live broadcast, intended for parties interested in the supply and demand of high-quality, recycled textile fibres. Both KOFOTI and KCFA, alongside the South Korean government, joined hands to establish a domestic recycled fibre “ecosystem” earlier in November.
Examples of local governments’ PET and waste plastic collection, the status of chemical recycling and examples of existing recycling collaborations between domestic companies were all discussed during the livestream.
