Anta Group donates $7.7 million to flood-hit Henan
According to a recent post by sportwear company Anta on Chinese social media platform Weibo, Anta Group has donated around $7.7 million (¥50 million) worth of funds and equipment to Henan’s provincial charity foundation.
The donation represents a show of support by the Jinjiang, Fujian-headquartered conglomerate (which owns activewear brands including Anta, Fila, Descente and Kolon Sport) to the flood-hit central Chinese province during its natural disaster recovery efforts.
Heavy rain and flooding in the area since July 16 have so far left 51 dead in the city of Zhengzhou, alone, according to China Daily.
Citing the city’s weather bureau as its source, Reuters reported that the between July 17 and 20, 617.1 millimetres of rain fell in Zhengzhou, nearing its annual average of 640.8 millimetres. This resulted in a level seen only “once in a thousand years”, the weather bureau stated.
