Next chapter of activism for Patagonia

US-based outdoor brand Patagonia has launched a digital platform connecting customers with grassroots organisations near them that are working to save the planet.

The goal of Patagonia Action Works is to help customers learn more about local environmental issues and how to get involved with events, petitions, fundraising and volunteering time and skills.

Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard said: “If you’ve been paying attention, you'll know that things aren't going very well for the planet. It’s pretty easy to get depressed about it. I’ve always known that the cure for depression is action.”

Patagonia describes the platform as “the next chapter in the company’s 40-year history of activism” and its giving programme, 1% for the Planet. Patagonia’s support of grassroots environmental organisations has totalled nearly $90 million and has reached thousands of community-based groups around the world.

Patagonia CEO Rose Marcario said: “The biggest question I get from our community and customers is, ‘What can I do to save the planet?’ This platform makes it easy to connect with organisations in your neighbourhood who are working every day on local issues. We have decades of experience with these groups, and our collective grassroots actions can add up to the change we need to make a better world. With the threats we face, we need everyone in this fight.”

Rimrose Valley Friends – listed on Patagonia Action Works works to protect the biodiversity and vitality of Rimrose Valley Country Park, an urban green space in the Liverpool City Region, close to the headquarters of World Trades Publishing, the owner of WSA and sportstextiles.com. It runs the Save Rimrose Valley campaign against the government’s Port of Liverpool Access Road proposal, which threatens the park’s future.
