Changes at the top for Spinnova

Biomaterials developer Spinnova has a new chief executive. Kim Poulsen took over the role on August 1 from co-founder Janne Poranen, with Mr Poranen moving to the role of executive chairman.

Mr Poulsen joins Spinnova from Kemira Chemicals, where he was global president for the group’s pulp and paper business unit. He described the move as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and said Spinnova was “on a mission to transform the traditional textile industry”.

He praised the work Spinnova has done already to build a strategic partnership with Brazil-based pulp producer Suzano. He described the company’s technique, based on fibre-suspension flows, of mechanically pulping fibres from wood pulp, leather waste and other raw materials and controlling the flow in such a way as to form a yarn as “revolutionary technology”.

He said existing partnerships with groups including adidas, The North Face, H&M Group, Bergans and Ecco as good examples of how this technology can appeal to customers.
