Texon reveals 100% recycled Strobel solution
Further to an initial announcement last month, UK-based footwear materials developer Texon has unveiled a new Strobel innovation, Ecostrobe, at leather, textiles and components fair Lineapelle.

Made from recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) using fusion-bonding technology that eliminates the need for added chemicals or water, the insole is the company’s first to have been made from 100% recycled content. Cutting waste is also fully recyclable into more of the same product without any risk of reduced quality, Texon added.

Designed for use in high-performance shoes including athletic, outdoor and casual footwear, Texon has also found Ecostrobe to be 20% lighter – and demand 50% less energy to produce – when tested against comparable technologies. It further boasts “excellent” moisture absorption and dispersal while remaining strong and durable, the developer said.

Group director for new product development and innovation, sustainability and marketing, Boyd Mulder, suggested that for every 1 million pairs of shoes containing Ecostrobe, more than 2.1 million PET plastic bottles could be diverted from landfill.
