Columbia Sportswear enjoys a record third quarter

US outdoor group Columbia Sportswear, the owner of Sorel, prAna, Mountain Hardwear and flagship brand Columbia, has reported record net sales for the third quarter ended September 30.

Compared to the third quarter of 2021, net sales grew by 19% to $955 million, a new high.

The domestic market remained by far its most important over the three-month period, with figures for US net sales also up 19% year on year, achieving $607 million.

Europe, the Middle East and Africa came in second, reaching $153.5 million, representing 41% growth over last year. Latin America and Asia-Pacific, meanwhile, generated $115.4 million (up 12%), while Canadian net sales totalled $79.1 million, a decline of 4%.

Regarding individual brand contributions to net sales growth, group chairman, president and chief executive Tim Boyle said Sorel and Columbia had led the way, with respective increases of 28% and 19%.

Mr Boyle underscored the company’s strategic commitment to creating “iconic products that are differentiated, functional and innovative”, singling out Omni-Heat Helix in particular. Designed to complement Columbia’s existing range of Omni-Heat thermal technology, this polyfleece innovation incorporates soft pods made from closed-cell foam and has already been used in this season's baselayers and midlayers.
