Go Sport cheered by new CEO amid struggles

French sporting goods retailer Go Sport has appointed Patrick Puy, founder of Paris-based fund Equerre Capital Partners, to the role of chief executive, effective January 4.

Mr Puy replaces Benoît Verdier, who departed from the company last month after joining in early 2022.

Go Sport is operated by Hermione People and Brands (HPB), the retail division of Bordeaux real estate group Financière Immobilière Bordelaise, known as FIB. HPB acquired Go Sport in December 2021.

The senior leader will report to Wilhelm Hubner and Samuel Alimi, HPB chairman and vice-chairman, respectively.

Mr Hubner said Mr Puy’s arrival “should enable the company to return to profit from 2023, after seventeen years of losses,” thus helping to secure its long-term future. A court in Grenoble is expected to decide on whether to order a suspension of payment on the retailer’s behalf on January 16.
