Investment in UK’s used textile systems
UK clothing retailer New Look has invested in software provider Looper to develop a tool that will help it better understand the life cycle of its garments.
By aggregating performance measurements from product life cycle assessments (LCAs), the solution will enable the retailer to “provide customers with more sustainable clothing options”, it said.
The investment is part of the Made Smarter Innovation Digital Supply Chain Hub, which looks at ways of harnessing technology and data to improve systems.
Another company in the hub, technology start-up MadeBy, is developing a program to track the flow of materials across a textiles supply chain, sponsored by QSA Partners, as part of the Circle-8 Textile Ecosystems.
This initiative operates two facilities: one focusing on textiles sorting and pre-processing, and the second working to establish a high-volume and cost-effective supply of feedstock. The objective is to support a circular textile supply chain in the UK.
Tim Lawrence, director of the Digital Supply Chain Hub said: “The challenges set to be solved on this programme will play a crucial role in helping these sectors to improve efficiency and cut costs.”
