Outdoor brand develops new waterproof three-layer fabric in house

Performance clothing and equipment brand Montane incorporated a new waterproof fabric called Petrichor Technology into its autumn-winter 2024-2025 collection.

It describes the technology as a PFAS-free, lightweight, waterproof three-layer fabric that is suited to high-output activities in the outdoors, providing “ultimate breathability and guaranteed shelter”.

Montane’s own technical team developed Petrichor, a name that refers to the attractive scent that is often in the air just after rain falls on dry ground. It comprises a windproof, non-porous hydrophilic membrane that transports water vapour and moisture away from the body, a 100% recycled nylon 21D ripstop face fabric, and a durable tricot lining.

The UK-based brand has used the technology in products including its Cetus Lite and Torren jackets, which it says are ideal “for moving fast and light in the mountains”.
