Dimpora rolls out membrane with high biobased content
Swiss start-up Dimpora has launched what it says is the waterproof breathable membrane that has the highest biobased content on the market. This new version of its patented Corelayer Technology is said to derive more than 60% of its composition from castor oil polymers, without compromising performance. The company said that membranes of this type usually have 20 to 40% biobased content.

Dimpora BIO is sourced from castor oil specialist Arkema, which has set up a social initiative in India to support farmers in a programme known as Pragati Sustainable Castor Initiative. The company pointed out that not all of the castor oil in it uses comes from certified farms yet, but that it supports “sustainable farming practices whenever possible, ensuring a responsible supply chain for this cutting-edge membrane”.

Dimpora’s membranes do not contain any PFAS chemicals, and are manufactured without solvents, to further lower their environmental impact. The company has also set up a complete supply chain in Europe, and membranes are produced in Switzerland. It has plans however to partner with a company in Asia to supply larger volumes closer to where performance outerwear garments are manufactured.
