Nylon 6 biorecycling breakthrough

Samsara Eco has announced it has added nylon 6 to its library of plastic-eating enzymes. The Canberra-based textile tech start-up has previously developed biorecycling platforms for nylon 6.6 and polyester.

The company founded in 2021 is targeting the textiles and automotive industries, where it said nylon 6 is prevalent. It will begin trials with strategic partners in mid-2025 when its research & development campus in Jerrabomberra, New South Wales, is set to open.

“Our ability to recycle nylon 6, nylon 6.6, polyester and mixed fibres, including coloured and dyed blends, is a gamechanger for the textile and fashion industry. Apparel is very rarely made from a single fibre so being able to recycle mixed fibres is the only way we can create true circularly for the industry,” commented Samsara Eco founder and CEO Paul Riley.
