Lululemon commits to biorecycled nylon
Canadian activewear brand Lululemon has announced that it had signed a 10-year offtake agreement with Australian recycler Samsara Eco. This could lead to the Australian start-up supplying up to 20% of fibres used by the activewear brand, though specific volumes have not been revealed.
The two companies have been collaborating for several years, as Lululemon has used Samsara’s recycled polyester in a limited-edition run of packable jackets and had made a prototype top from recycled nylon 6.6. Samsara Eco has identified enzymes that break down both fibre families in its EosEco platform.
In addition to a first larger scale facility in the works in Jerrabomberra, New South Wales, slated to open this year, Samsara said it had plans to open a commercial facility outside of Australia in 2028.
