Push for greater traceability in cotton standards
The Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTD) is introducing an extra level of transparency for its Cotton made in Africa (CmiA) and Regenerative Cotton Standard (RCS). In addition to the existing mass balance and hard identity preserved tracing methods, AbTD is adding a mandatory audits by independent controls reviewing tracking-system data and associated documents and digital transaction documents (DTDs).

“In the future, independent auditors will regularly check whether the transparency requirements of the new standard are reliably adhered to in the supply chain,” commented Gerlind Bäz, a senior project manager.

It should be noted that Better Cotton has also reinforced the security of its certification platform by introducing physical traceability, and, starting this February, it will operate as a full fledged standard.
