Better Cotton eyes regenerative standard

20/06/2025
Regenerative agriculture has been on the radar of Better Cotton for a few years, notably with the launch of a project to support 7,000 farmers in adopting regenerative practices in Telangana, India, in 2023. At its annual conference, held in Izmir this week, it officially announced its decision to develop a regenerative standard “within the next year”.

“It is increasingly clear that we need approaches that don’t simply mitigate or reduce harm, but that actively restore the environment. I am therefore pleased to share that over the next 12 months, Better Cotton will complete the remaining steps to become a regenerative standard,” said Eva Benavidez Clayton, in charge of demand and engagement at Better Cotton, speaking at the conference.

The organisation’s current standard, which came into being earlier this year, already covers several core tenets of regenerative agriculture, it said.
