Reju inks deal for textile-to-textile feedstock
Reju, a start-up that has developed a textile-to-textile recycling solution for polyester, has partnered Dutch cooperative Cibutex to access feedstock from post-consumer textile waste.
The cooperative's member companies - Blycolin Textile Services, Dibella, Edelweiss Groep, Lamme Textile Management and Nedlin - will send waste to be processed at Reju's Regeneration Hub Zero in Frankfurt, Germany, which will be fully operational this year, and at future Reju Regeneration Hubs.
With the European Union's mandate for textile waste collection taking effect this year, along with pending regulations in the US, this initiative comes at a pivotal moment, said the companies.
Patrik Frisk, CEO of Reju, added: "Cibutex's distinct approach to mobilising member companies aligns perfectly with Reju's mission to regenerate textiles at scale. Together, we are tackling the challenge of textile waste, building an infrastructure that keeps valuable resources out of landfills and incineration while reducing the industry's carbon footprint."
Reju’s recycling technology uses a volatile catalyst to separate polyester from other fibres. “It is fast, clean and efficient,” Mr Frisk, a former CEO of Under Armour, told Sportstextiles. This, he suggests, makes it more economically viable than other chemical recycling solutions.
