Fresh funds for ‘purification recycling’ technology
Ravel, a textile recycling company based in Seattle, has announced having successfully finalised its pre-seed funding round today. The company founded in 2019 has developed what it describes as a “light touch, energy efficient, closed loop process to transform blended material textile waste back into mono-material feedstocks, separating and isolating any percentage amount of contaminants or dyes”. It refers to the technology as “purification recycling”. It is said to preserve the properties and quality of base materials while removing contaminants, giving it advantages over depolymerisation and mechanical recycling.

The company is currently focusing on polyester and polyester/elastane textile waste. “The bottom of the waste pyramid is being ignored. We need solutions that are economic, environmental and truly innovative—now. That’s why we created purification recycling: a new path toward a circular economy," commented Ravel CEO and co-founder Zahlen Titcomb.

The funding round was led by At One Ventures along with other climate-focused investors such as Collateral Good, Climate Capital, Betterway Ventures and Moonstone VC.
