BioBlack achieves GOTS compliance

Nature Coatings’ Bioblack TX pigment dispersions, which are derived from wood waste, have achieved another level of safety as the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) has found them to be non-toxic and responsibly made. Bioblack can thus be used to dye organic fibres and fabrics and is approved for use in GOTS-certified apparel and textile collections.

“We’ve cleared a crucial hurdle that allows us to integrate seamlessly into certified supply chains. This is more than a stamp of approval—it’s a passport to a cleaner, more circular textile industry,” commented Jane Palmer, CEO and founder of the company based in Las Vegas.

GOTS, which is based in Stuttgart, Germany, certifies raw materials used in apparel and textiles as well as all processes involved in turning fibres into finished products. Its guidelines regarding chemicals “prohibits the use of toxic chemicals, such as heavy metals and any substances known to be harmful to human health or to the environment” and allows only “GOTS-approved colourants and auxiliaries to be used in GOTS-certified processing chains”.
