High-tech thermo-reactive polymer
Linx, a company based in China, is betting on the heat-boosting properties of a modified polyester yarn, originally developed by Japanese group Serein (Linx has secured global distribution rights for the technology outside of Japan). To provide the added thermal protection, Lithermo, the special yarn, need only make up 20% of a fabric, Jimmy Han, Linx general manager, told Sportstextiles

The advanced thermal properties of the modified polymer make it possible to offer warmth without bulk. It favours slim silhouettes and can thus offer an alternative to micro puffer jackets. In three-layer laminates, the backing fabric can be made from the thermo-reactive yarn to offer thermal insulation along with weather protection and breathability.

The special polymer can even be used to make the waterproof membrane itself. It can transport water vapour at a rate of 20,000 g/m2/24 hours and resist water pressure up to 10,000 mm. The polymer has a natural dark metallic colour, which also gives it an urban tech aesthetic.

Linx was exhibiting at the Functional Fabric Fair this week, and is also at Performance Days in Munich.
