Compostable polyester on show

Celys owes its properties to its modified chemical structure, Simon Pereira, head of marketing, told Sportstextiles. It is made from the two base ingredients of polyester (PTA and MEG) with “a secret ingredient”, which he said was not an additive.
The ability to biodegrade means that Celys can have a limited impact on microplastic pollution, he n oted. “When fibres shed from a fabric, as all fibres will, ours will not be persistent in nature.”
Apparel made from Celys can also be recycled, said Mr Pereira. “It may even be easier to recycle compared to conventional polyester as the molecular bonds are weaker.” This means that Celys could be a good candidate for enzymatic recycling.
In addition to its ‘clean’ end of life, Celys fabrics are said to have a cotton hand feel. They can be dyed at low temperature (100°C), are good at wicking and absorbing moisture, and are fast drying.
Intimiti was founded in 2014 and achieved a first breakthrough in 2019, Mr Pereira told Sportstextiles. Ceyls was officially launched in February of 2024. It is currently available as pellets and staple fibre. The yarn is produced in China. Since launch, the company has been exhibiting at numerous trade shows to present the new yarn and brand, from Premiere Vision to Ispo, and was at the Functional Fabric Fair in New York earlier this week.
Intimiti is in the process of setting up a new R&D centre in Thornleigh, Australia. The dedicated synthetic textile lab is to open this August.
