Built-in performance properties found in sustainable synthetic
OceanSafe, a Swiss company that has developed a Cradle-to-Cradle Gold certified biodegradable polyester yarn, is coming to Performance Days with a new performance message. The yarn has been found to have built in moisture management properties, Matthias Fuchs, marketing manager for OceanSafe tells WSA. “We have found that it behaves quite differently from other polyester fibres and has good wicking properties. Nanea is hydrophilic, which means it absorbs moisture and it dries fast. Usually, it is necessary to add chemicals to achieve these properties in polyester, but this feature is innate to our fibre and is due to its polymer structure.”

Mr Fuchs expects this feature to be particularly interesting for the technical brands that attend Performance Days. Additionally, the company is expanding its market beyond apparel into automotive, workwear, home textiles and insulation, with prices dropping as production scales up.
